I just got the J20 on the road today. I checked the fluid level of the quadratrac and its overfull of tranny fluid. Obviously I need to replace some gaskets. But my question is which gaskets and/or seals am I needing to replace?
When you go to install those two seals, make sure of a couple of things.
1. the lip springs need to face away from eachother, meaning the spring side of the t-case seal faces the t-case, and the spring side of the trans seal faces the trans.
2. there is a drain hole between the two seals. Ensure that hole is clean and clear. It's purpose is to prevent this issue. Many times, people with an un-natural love of silicone, plug that hole up inadvertantly. The two seals are supposed to be driven in to a depth that keeps that hole from being blocked, while keeping it located between the two seals. That way if one of the seals fails, then the fluid will drip out the weap hole.
3. If the trans was able to fill the t-case, check to make sure the vent hose on the top of the transmission is clear. Might wanna check the t-case vent hose too.

1978 Cherokee Chief: Parents bought new. 360/TH400/NOS Quadratrac, 44's/ARB's/4.10's, SOA, Shackle Flip, Alcan Springs, FOX 2.0's, 35" BFG KM2s, custom bumpers, 324,000 miles and counting...
The case and lowrange unit together hold about 2.5 quarts. I always fill up the case to the fill plug level, plug it, and put the balance of the 2.5 quarts in the lowrange unit.

So anyway. I got my stuff today. Thanks BJ's. I stopped by Six States today and got the big bearing front wheel seals I need. I have 4 days off this weekend so going to tear into it.
But should there be anything else I should do whilst the transfer is out? I already greased the u joints.
Well I now know why the transfer case is full. Whomever had that out last used probably a whole tube of blue silicon between the trans and transfer case. I can't even get the two seperated yet. Fun times.
