Water pump

Post by Ray »

So thinking of having my 360 rebuilt and dreading the thought of trying to get a water pump that fits!
Especially since the amc pump has a ridge that won’t let the flange that mounts to the fan be adjusted

I would recommend dry fitting the pump and hand spin to make sure nothing rubs. My replacement pump impeller rubbed timing cover. Had to press in the impeller until it cleared. I also had to file near harmonic balancer. If you do the search, there’s plenty of threads that cover the pump replacement so we don’t repeat the same mistakes.
Good luck with replacement.

I bought the nice Japanese heavy duty aluminum one off TGW. 12,000 miles and not a single issue. Fit right with no needed modifications.

The GMB aluminum pumps are decent. They're reboxed/sold under many labels for inflated $$.
Cheap on rockauto or Amazon.
Housing fits w/o grinding and hose outlets are actually the correct size.
Both my GWs have this pump they're made in Japan according to castings.

Had issues with cast garbage on both previously.
Lots grinding and hose outlets/castings were piss poor.

Yeah that’s it, GMB I couldn’t remember the name. Great pump.

My carquest pump fit perfect. Mine looked like it it had been on the shelf for a very long time though so the newer ones might not be of the same quality

Yeah my biggest problem has been shaft length and the amc pump can’t be pressed any further up the shaft!

I had three different brand new pumps sitting on the bench and everyone of them was different from the original one

+1 -- my aluminum GMB is going on strong 3 years later. Fitment was perfect.

It may be kind of late to be posting on this thread but since fsj454 posted only a couple days ago I figured I would post anyway.

My truck uses a one or two year only short water pump. The replacements available are expensive and don't have good reputations so I sent my water pump to the Water pump man ( http://www.waterpumpman.com/index.html ). It took about a week to get back but I got mywater pump back and it was correct with no problems whatsoever. It may not be the cheapest option but you know it is going to fit because it is your water pump, not someone else's or a new piece of junk.
