Radiator

Post by barkleyw »

Tore the radiator out almost 2 years ago - putting it back together and never took a picture - what hooks up to the 2 hose barbs coming out on the bottom of the radiator? where do they lead to? Can't find the diagram for it.

Gotcha - thank you - so does that go in loop with the transmission cooler?

Yup, that was the factory cooler and was also used to heat trans fluid during warm up. If you have remote cooler I would not bother hooking it up.

Thanks again - I like the idea of leaving it out - not going to be doing heavy towing.

Just to verify - leave this out - see pic, and plumb the two tranny lines right into the bottom of the radiator

Yup. On my trucks I do not use the rad unit as if motor runs hot transfers heat to trans. I use the aux cooler to make trans cooling system a stand alone unit.

That external cooler came with the towing package. If it doesn't leak, I wouldn't leave the that cooler out of the loop but that is me. Those Modine units are very good coolers if they aren't rotted out.

I replaced my "MODINE" cooler with a one from Summit racing. The Modine unit was broken (all fins had fallen out) so I didn't think it was doing much. So the cooler lines goes into the rad first, then into the cooler and returns to the trans (sort of double cooling). Seems to be ok for me. I also removed the A/C condenser, drier and compressor as none of this was working on mine (R12 and empty). Good luck.
