Steering column rebuild or parts

Post by Gladiator69 »

Does anyone know of a place that rebuilds steering columns or offers replacement parts. I have a 1969 Gladiator and i really want to keep the original steering column but the turn signal internal part is broke on it. Its got the 3 speed on the floor and is non tilt.

Don't know, but I suspect it's the same part as a 50s-60s Chevy pickup non-tilt column, with different wire colors and maybe a different plug. Like this?

This is a Standard TW-31 from a late 60s Chevy. Is it plastic or cast metal? If you can post a pic maybe it will match one of the pictures online.

This is an F100 switch - similar. Used to be able to buy just the white plastic part, which has the posts that cancel. They'd break off and your signals wouldn't cancel.

Standard used to hav pictures of all their parts online, but not anymore. :banghead: If you have a pal at an olde-tyme parts store that did not throw out all their paper books, they might let you look at some old Standard or other electrical parts supplier books for a picture that matches. Unlikely that Jeep did not use an off-the-shelf part for this, though it may have been modified with wire color or plug type to their specs.

Ok, there are 3 parts and 2 service parts that can apply to a '69 Gladiator. Without a hazard switch, it's PN 933849, which actually gives a hit on the net! https://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-Wagon-Pic ... 3356430910 This is just the cam, which is the part that usually breaks.

948847 is the service part for the 7-wire switch and the 6-wire switch 943233 both with hazard. Here's some NOS - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-Wagon-Pic ... 3356430910 If you have the 943233, the parts book advises to splice the pink wire into the white wire of the 948847.

Thanks for the links. They look different than mine but the overall function should be similar. They are cheap enough to where i might just try them.

Look for eBay seller 1968jeep. He has the complete turn signal wiring harness with switches, cams, hazard switch, etc. I installed one in my 71 Wagoneer last year and it worked great.
