BDS 4" Lift

Post by rjdagenhart »

So before I took the truck in to have the engine swapped we put a 4" lift on it. `1979 Cherokee Chief W/T. So I measured the difference from the front and back. It is two inches lower in the front. Have had the LM7 motor in for over a year now and I think everything has stabilized out. Considering an add a leak and maybe a shackle to level the jeep out. What are every's thoughts? I am figuring this out as I go so I am leaning on the group to see what the knowledgable ones have to say.

Interesting, I'm going the BDS 4" lift route on a Chief as well. Any major weight variance between the LM7 and the original 360 (I would have guess less not more weight, but you are measuring low in front). What shocks did you select? How about transmission and transfer case - any changes or major weight differences there?

I'll need to figure out how to upload photos. Right now I have 31's just because they still have good tread and I can't bring myself to swap them out for new ones until they are worn down. I went with Bilstein 5500's I believe, I could be wrong it has been over a year since we did the lift. The transmission is an 4L60E and T case is a Super 18. All were overhauled by Novak. I'm going to put a set of hooker headers on then get a custom to fix some exhaust leaks. Finally I'm have the PMC retuned and dyno'd for better fuel economy. So shortly after that I'm going to try an add a leaf.

So that doesn't speak well for BDS (assuming no other major weights up front winch, bumper, etc..), the 360 weighs in at 540lbs and the LM7 at 518 - 22lbs less. 2" sag with 22lbs less.

Good to know as I am looking for a 4" with a much heaver front than stock. (extra 242lbs)
