Axle build sheet

Post by irondawg »

Hey Gang,

I posted this in another thread but figured more people would see it here.

I've started the disassembly of the axles and gathering up parts for the gearing change, and rebuild of brakes, ball joints, and pretty much everything else related to axles. I've been trying to find an axle build sheet that I've used in the past to document the different measurements for ring/pinion clearances but I cannot find it any longer. Anyone have a source?

The link helped. I found the BOM and have 3.53 gears front and rear. I was nervous cause the front axle looks like it has brand new carrier and gears. The back looks as expected.

Double check the gears. Just because the axle sold with one set of gears doesn't mean it still has them.

^^ this...the ratio should be stamped on the ring gears circumference...either that or count teeth on ring and pinion and divide.

Pulled the covers off and both axles have stamped 46:13. The front looks brand new and the back looks old.

Rear axle. Did some measurements and all is good. I've got axle seal kits and pinon seal on the way. Gear oil looked good and no signs of metal shavings. I took the bearing straps off to get a better look at the shims if you were wondering. There's not missing.

Front axle. I think the PO had some work done. Also the pinion nut is missing on the front. There was no oil but the front driveshaft was off and the axle gears no where to be found. I'm going to disassemble and check for scoring and see what needs to be replaced. I've order a set of Mile Marker hubs. Not going back with QT, it's getting replaced with a 241C transfer case.
