I got a 1978 Jeep J20 about 8 months ago and been working on it when I can. Being in the Marine Corps and my billet description (Combat Instructor) time is hard to come by anymore but I do what I can. I have not been taking pics of my build which I apologize but will start doing it from here on out. The truck ran only had 86,000 miles on it when I bought it but ugly color and ugly homemade camper top. I ditched the top had everything blasted.
After the blasting, I got it back and literally bought a lot of POR-15 and am painting the whole truck with it so that when I EAS from doing 12 years of service and move to Tennessee it hopefully will never rust. I have the whole drivetrain out (AMC 360, TH400, and Quadratrac) to rebuild once I get the whole frame and body done first.
I have the frame painted already with POR-15 and chassis coat already. Currently working on the rear axle with disc brake conversion and caddy e brake calipers. I already lifted it using Tads soa and shackle flip kit. It's a slow rebuild but need to get it done by June 2015. I plan on maybe adding 2 inch or 4 springs along with the SOA/shackle flip and run 37s on 17x9 DOT beadlock wheels to match my 2 JK's (No their stock rubicons but when I'm done with the truck their next, lol.)
Sooooooo tomorrow I'll be messing with the truck more and see what else I get done. Wish me luck. Also I was wondering should I just take the shackles and move them under the frame instead of having them outboard? Oh the stubborn body mount bolts I broke and discarded not thinking to keep them to measure them would anyone know the stock bolts sizes and threads of all of them so I can replace them as I already bought the poly kit off of BJ's but it does not come with bolts?
Semper Fi and welcome to the madness. No idea about the bolt size but I would take the bushing down to an ACE hardware and see what combination of bolts will work for you.

No longer strangled. I didn't build it for anyone else.
If you can't improve it why waste your time?
I'm going to need a gas tank that fits where the spare tire goes and does not sit too low below the rear bumper. So what year and make should I get for that?

I assume there is more room between the axle and rear bumper than on a Cherokee.
I'm going to be removing my steel aux fuel tank soon and it may go up for sale. It's a professionally made 33 gallon but I don't know the manufacturer. This one bolts to the two tire carrier mounts and has two frame tabs. It fits above the Drawtite receiver hitch with just enough room for a rubber isolator sheet. My rig is a 77 so the frames are still the same width as far as I know.
If you're still looking then perhaps we can make a deal/trade?
If nothing else, I may be able to find a decal or stamp on it somewhere and share it with you to help you locate one.

I'm running a TH400 and Dana 20 with a QT (ofset) dana 60 rear. For the Dana 20, you need the 2wd short output shaft installed into your TH400, then the adapter and a Dana 20.
