Minor update: we finally stenciled the ‘Jeep’ logo script on to the tailgate, in an off-White. We tried to match the aged patina a bit, too.

I like it a lot! Is that regular rattle can paint or something special?

Well, my vacation has been a bit busy. One thing we decided to do to help preserve the Jeep was fabricate a vintage tonneau cover. 62 didn’t want a vintage canopy, so we improvised.

We picked a cheap old canopy from the same era as the Jeep and luckily it had a killer Patina that fit the vibe of the Patina on the truck. The canopy is an 8 footer, the Thriftside is 7’1”, so a bit more trimming is needed.

We had a storm blow through here a week ago. In addition to knocking down a huge sycamore tree, we noticed the wipers were not working on the 62.

Two hours of testing circuits, switches and bench testing the wiper motor- the culprit was the wiper motor.

Extra thanks for posting that pic of the old n' good wiper motor with the plug attached. Mine came to me sans plug and washer nozzles, so I added some stock nozzles and a generic washer fluid pump.

Random question: Do you have lap seat belts in this or did you install shoulder belts? I'll go check you pics again.

I love the classic bench. Did you need to rebuild some of the springs in the seat? And did you reupholster it yourselves?

Thanks! That seat came out of a 68 Gladiator I found at an estate sale. The dad passed away and the family came in after awhile and decided to sell the house, land and whatever they didn’t want. I bought the truck with the intent to have that be my son’s truck, but despite the flawless exterior and new upholstery, the truck was riddled with bondo and cancer.

Whoever did the body work, certainly knew how to shape bondo, but didn’t do much to replace the rusty metal, or treat the rust. So that truck gave up it’s usable parts for this 62.

I still use the Jahco 24 Volt WW 2 fighter plane starter Winch from that truck!

Since the Yellow Cherokee Chief’s axles will get refurbished for my son’s truck, I’ll post up here.

The Cherokee was traded for a 1975 360/th400 combo, plus a rolling 1976 t18/D20/360 combo on 6 lug axles.

I think they know about my Jeep addiction, it’s not so easy to hide! Hahaha. Most of the neighbors are pretty cool about the Jeep parts coming and going. This should be it for awhile. My cup runneth over- way over.

It took 4 hours to load up the Cherokee and take the axles off, and unload the 360/th400 combo.

Then another 4 hours to stash and stack all the parts TEMPORARILY. Ugh. I’m done for the day.

I feel your pain. Of my last trip from storage I moved some heavy stuff. 4 of the large tough boxes were full of Jeep parts ranging from cylinder heads to alternators, exhaust manifolds,etc. each box probably weighs 150-200lbs. I’m done physically.
Jeeps sure take a lot out of ya!

62’s window stock d side window regulator and p side door latch gave up and stripped out. So we’re swapping in “new” sets all the way around.

The 75 j10 doors yielded something I’ve never seen before:

These 60’s era door latches will bolt right on to the 70’s era regulators and the regulators are interchangeable, too.

I've never seen a FSJ build sheet in real life either - that is so cool! The one from my truck was either gone or never put in the doors. My passenger door had the original paper behind the upholstered door panel, but no build sheet in there. My driver's door might have been messed with, but who knows? I wouldn't be surprised if those build sheets ended up wherever the guy felt like stashing it.

Here are some ideas for that 68 Wag...in case you're taking suggestions! :P
1. Super clone...oh wait, no need, been there done that. :-bd
2. 2WD convert, made into a 2 dr. panel Wag...oh woops...been there too! ;)
3. Lifted about 4" on pizza cutters...or some Buckshot Mudders you happen to find.
4. Something of a vintage Baja or dunes-oriented build, no doors, little glass, no tailgate, big-block Buick 455 swap.

Yes sir! If only for the turning radius! I honestly don't know the u-joint size but I think the open knuckle uses a larger one. I guess option 4 doesn't leave much room for making use of whatever original 60s stuff is left on that Wag, but number 3 would still allow for keeping period correct stuff. I don't know if 44s were an optional front axle on 68 Wags. Most (or all) used Dana 27s, right?
