The War Chief 5.3 is Alive!!!

Post by War Wagon »

My son finally got The War Chief running today after installing a 5.3 LS motor. His setup is a 5.3/T400/QT with 3:55's in the D44's. He pulled the motor appart so he could re gap the rings, install ARP rod bolts, LS9 head gaskets, head studs and a turbo cam. His plans are to run it this way to get the bugs out
before the turbo goes on. He built the T400 with HD parts on a wooden wire spool just like Mikey does in his video. LOL He will get to really test it out next month at this years ECI. I expect alot of new threads in the Dangit Zack section on the CFSJC site. He sure broke alot of stuff with the 360 so hay ya'll watch this!

Here is a video of the first start up of the 5.3.

The lower hose is a Dayco 71989 which is an upper hose for a GMC 1500 with a 5.3.

The upper hose is a Dayco 71690 which is an upper hose off a Buick Century 3.1 V6.

He had to trim a small amount off of each for proper fit. They look like they were made for
the conversion.

Cool, thanks for the info. Just some extra 5.3 swap info, a Hummer H3 with a 5.3 has the radiator ports in the same positions as our jeeps, but they H3 radiator ports are 1/4" smaller in diameter.

I just got back from my first drive of an LS powered FSJ. All I can say is "I Got To Get Me One Of These!!!!!!". Can you say WOW! My son had a time getting me out of his Jeep. The tune needs some cleaning up and there is a shifting into 3rd issue but we are working on this.

Well we had a problem at last years ECI, the front diff hit the oil pan and knocked a big hole it. We were lucky and caught it before there was any engine damage, still had full oil pressure when we shut it down. Well we looked at steel oil pans and did some searching and read that the current steel pans weren't good for off roading plus they were big $. So we just said the heck with that and installed a BDS 4" lift and plan to lengthen the bump stops.

I know it looks funny on 31's but we are looking for some 35's.
We also got a Warn Classic Winch Bumper installed today. Getting ready for the 2014 ECI.

Wow, that rig looks mean. The 38s almost look natural and I like the copper color on the wheels too.
