My 6.2 diesel build (72 wagoneer)

Post by Irocz327 »

Hey folks. So I bought a 72 wagoneer back in June that was 75% of the way thru a 6.2 diesel swap. In total it's got a 6.2 diesel/700r4/np208 & chevy 6 bolt dana 44s. I call it the Bacon Wagon because I know the are a bit of a "pig" of a motor but it's my pig. Lol

The truck has a 6-8in lift. All custom lift done by the previous owner. 4in blocks in the rear with a S.O.A.
It's currently sitting on maxxis bighorn. 35's.

Since June it been slow but I got the engine re wired & a few of the new gauges hooked up. I've also picked up a few more toys for it. A mile maker 12,000lb Hyd winch , York 210, & a couple alternators to build acouple weldenators.

The over all plan is to build a off road recovery/ mobile tool truck. I have many more plans but for right now I just want it to live! Lol

I'll post some pics up at work tomorrow.

Those 6.2 are tough, not high on the power list but will run for ever (just keep it lubed), also they loved to mushroom the glow plugs so carry a few extra.

Thanks guys, I've been trying to get on at IFSJA.org forever but I just found out that they had basically moved over here.. so here I am. lol

Any ways heres some pics of the truck.
Image
Where I started.

Image

First thing I really did was rip out all the old carpet & ripped to hell front seats & bedlinered the floors.
Image
Image

Next I replaced the front seats. with some really plush bucket seats out of my father in laws old van.

Image
Image

Next I repainted the dash & replaced some of the guages.
Image
Image
Image

Then started ripping in to the Jacked up engine harness the last guy had did. It was just wires twisted together w/ electrical tape & random wires disconnected everywhere. & being a little OCD I decided to rip every wire out of the truck & replace it with fresh new wire. No more splicing & hacking.

So I bought my supplies & laid in to the engine first.
Image

before.
Image

after (just realized I don't have a 100% complete pic. but this ones about 80%) no more loose wires.

I know the mushroom head very well, I work for the Nat'l guard as a full time mechanic so I've done my fair share. Which is why I replaced all the ones in the motor with new ones when I did the harness. About $9 bucks a peice!? & I thought spark plugs were expensive.

It's sorted out for the most part. As far as driving it... No it's far from that. I need to finish the head light harness & tail light harness which I'm hoping to get done this weekend but we'll see. Otherwise I need to get the speedo & fuel guage hooked up yet, finish the exhaust, patch the rear quarters, prime & paint, and I wonna change all the fluids & finish up a few other little things. Oh an then licenses it lol. But I'm hoping to have her driving by the spring. It's been low because of finances but it's getting there.

gaskets, etc...

It's a surco rack I kept off my last truck. I built a custom tool box that fits nicely in it when I had a 31 in spare in there with it but I don't think I'll be putting the spare 35 on the roof. Lol

I hear ya brother! My build has been slow & I have a hard time trying to not forget the things that need to be finished before I start another project on the truck.

I bought the rack when I was on my deployment & could afford it. It was expensive but we'll worth it!

Including yours, I know of 3, 4 door Jeeps with the Wide track fenders. Being new to Jeeps, you just lucked into one of the rarest Jeeps on this forum. You lucky dog.... :-bd

To my understanding, these were all aftermarket. It would be nice to have some detailed photos of yous, as a lot of us would love to do this. Are they steel?

srobertsfsj in Co. has one that has just gone through a beautiful repair. Heres a link to the thread. Theres a lot of good info about them...

Well you guys need to let me know what you wonna see & I'll get ya all the pics you want I just don't know specifically what you want to see .. Lol

Mine are just fiberglass or at least they feel like fiber glass.

Mines detached from the rear quater thanks to rust. I need to figure a better way to reattach them. Then I'm gunna run a bead of silicone on the inside & out. The bottom of the truck is gunna get bedlined. So I'm hoping the holds everything together.
