KaiserJeeps (on ifsja) and I did a road trip into the back country to a heck of a nice guy's off the grid cabin to scope out a collection of 7 old jeeps. 3 wags (63, 64, and 71), 2 j trucks (65 j300, 64 j200), and two Willys flat fender trucks.

A three mile driveway off an unmarked road, a definite 4wd needed trail on the clay soiled "road".

He had stacks of spare parts upon stacks of spare parts. We couldn't photograph enough of it all. We both bought the parts we needed. It was a cool trip to get a few parts and meet a great guy.

Image

We're going back eventually to inventory/catalogue his stash and help him get rid of the whole lot. The fire season is winding down and he wants to clear a larger fire break around his cabin and all the jeeps (except a few he's keeping) need to go.

Since you are a collector of American Flags I might sway you to flip it around so that it can fly into battle. Stars towards the door. Jeeps and The flag never retreats but its up to you.

PS I need a flag like that when I get a garage.
I have no idea what I'm doing.

You're going way back for that, lol.

At first I thought you were joking, but then maybe not- I suppose urban legends, or misunderstandings about flags happen, but proper American flag display is probably ingrained into me as a former Jarhead. The way it is facing is the way it's supposed to face according to etiquette. Here's a link to a respected website about how to properly display and American Flag (I hope it clears up some misinformation):

It's all good. It's always good to learn something worthwhile every now and again.

When you're ready, I'll send you a flag. Just let me know.

When I was 19, I broke into the mess hall and stole the huge flag they kept pinned to the wall. I did it so I could give it to my 17 year old room mate who was homesick and crying alone on his birthday.
He did stop crying and after a philosophical conversation he came to the realization that there are things in this world bigger than birthdays.

I guess I've always thought our flag was important.

Semper Fi is right.

While my wife borrows the TJ as her "Nagivator" is getting a new radiator, I opted for the 66 today.

I finally got around to installing the LED lights in the dash. They're green and they're growing on me.

Image

I swapped out the speedometer as the previous one suddenly stopped working. Big surprise, the replacement doesn't work either. Lol.

I am toying with the idea to modify a newer wagoneer's speedometer to fit into the older speedo's place.

In a perfect world there would be an obvious solution: repair, nos, or "one from a 19__ Chevy/dodge/ford will be a direct replacement.

12.99 for a new speedo cable, and the speedometer is working again.

For grins and giggles I took a speedometer from a 72 Commando and painted it stain black, then installed it.

I figured it was "newer" and didn't have as many miles on it as the older 63-65 era spares I have. We'll see how long it all lasts.

The J300 is an early V8 version

Thanks, they're not new, but cleaned, polished up a bit and then sprayed with two coats of Clear Coat on both sides.

I can't wait to save up for a few sets of your reproduction sets, they look OEM!

I should've looked for that sticker- we've been down that road before with that 1414X awhile back, eh?

We plan on going back up to his place, but the cabin owner has been super busy. I am temped to drag a few of those jeeps home, but I lack the space to store them.

That white truck would be a fairly easy resto. Between the three wagoneers, one nice one might be able to see the road in decent shape.

When we get back that way, I'll snap pics of all the vin plates for you.

I've been busy stripping the 67ish brown waggie. Made some progress. Sold a few things locally, scrapping some, stashing as much as possible to maintain the herd.

It'll all be tucked away and/or gone by mid next week if all goes according to plan.
