Cheap USB ALDL cable

Post by babywag »

Just recently bought one of these to try out.
http://m.ebay.com/itm/161910688567
Tested on 1227747, 16197427, and my 94 Caprice wagon w/LT1.
Works as expected, good transfer rates etc.
Works with ALDLDroid, TunerPro, and EEHack.

There are others can't vouch for them.
If you buy a different one be sure it's FTDI based chipset.

Can also get same one cheaper from China vs. US seller.

Nice. That looks pretty good.

I use a tiny little FTDI-based board that I got on Tindie.com (https://www.tindie.com/products/jimpari ... reakout-1/). There are other FTDI boards on Tindie, too. You can also get FTDI boards from Sparkfun, Adafruit, and other places, albeit not quite as cheap as the direct-from-China ones.

I think some of the direct-from-China FTDI boards might use clone chips. Bad because newest drivers may not work or may brick the thing (see: https://www.sparkfun.com/news/1629)

Yea plenty of ftdi boards on eBay way cheaper than that, and I have several. I like this one because it's just a cable.

Never had any problems with cloned chips. Anyway they yanked the driver that was disabling clones long time ago.

I purchased the cable and it didn't come with instruction on the pin out. babywag, do you by any chance have pin out for hooking up to 1227747? I would appreciate the info.

Thanks for the info on the pinout. My diagnostic port has three wires attached to port A, B and E. To make comm connection to 1227747, do I connect 1-Black:GND to port A, 5-White:RXD to port E and nothing to port B? I just want to make sure so that I don't fry my laptop nor ECU. I apologize for asking dumb question.
