Used Pro-Jection 2D

Post by KJ Ryu »

Other than the obvious (wiring will need traced since a DSPO used different colored wires on a few, didn't get gaskets, hose [do I need special fuel hose for 15psi?], filters, etc.), any suggestions? I've got the pdf for the instructions and have read through them a couple times. Seems fairly simple but, I know some of you guys know a lot more about this than I. I have a stock coil/distributor atm but, I will probably pull the HEI from my Wag, so tach signal will be easy.

Should I set it for big block or small? This will be going on my 401, which I've discovered has a "high energy" 268H cam and 940 valve springs. That's all the PO knew. Motor was rebuilt when he bought it so not a lot of info. I'm assuming big block setting.

No. The instructions say it's optional. I plan to get it tuned as best as I can without it, then add it in later.

It will keep changing tune without it. Early ones sucked because they weren't even wired for it.

I ran mine both open and closed loop over the years.
Not a big difference between either. I eventually ran it open loop but kept the O2 sensor for setting the lean/rich knob. Mine seemed to prefer to be slightly on the rich side at idle.

Regular fuel line is fine, size of line does matter.
3/8" in, 5/16" out.
I would start with small block mode.
I went back and forth a few times on the Buck 350, didn't make that much difference but you have to go through the entire setup operation when you switch.

They do not like a sloppy timing chain.
Mine was a love hate experience, I hope yours is better.

I'm cheating a bit. Dropped the truck and TBI off at a buddy's. He's installing it for me. While we were going over the truck, he noticed that there is already an 02 sensor installed in the driver's side header. Not sure what it was hooked to, though. The wire just runs through the firewall and hangs on the vent knob.

I hope he hurries though. I'm getting anxious to drive this truck. It took a 1/4 tank to get it to his house, the carb leaks so bad. Runs good but, I know it could be better.

Well crap!!! Just got the truck back today... Now with an Edelbrock 4 barrel. :banghead: I should have just waited to get the new Edey MPI system. This truck WILL be fuel injected, dammitall!!! I'd be more upset but, he didn't charge me any extra $$ and I know he lost quite a bit (buying sensors, switches, wire, gaskets, whatever else was missing from the used kit I got from his nephew) on this project. He finally wound up putting a rebuild kit in an Edey carb; probably one he already had but, he also gave me back the Holley that was on it; so I got a rebuilt carb AND an apparently useless TBI kit for REALLY cheap.

Timing needs advanced a bit, I think. 12° at idle and 31° advanced at WOT right now. Just wants to sputter when you put your foot in it a little. I'm thinking 2 to 4 more ought to do. Also, the mixture screws are exactly 1.5 turns out. Might help to fine tune those, since my buddy didn't have time to. (He bailed on the TBI this morning!)

So, based on that limited info, any suggestions to help with the tuning? :-bd

I'm just happy to finally have it back!!!

I look at the pictures of this unit, and I think - Megasquirt it. It's a throttle body, with a TPS, just like the GM throttle bodies.
