I heard there were some ginger beer fans in the group. I enjoy it but I'm by no means a connoisseur. Here is one of my local favorites. I don't think this is widely distributed so if you're ever in a super market within 100 miles of Reading, PA check for Reading Draft. It's usually in boxes in the soda aisle and the variety pack always has one. Their root beer is incredible too.
It's good in a Moscow Mule. The copper cup is kinda wierd, IMO. That drink is a vodka buck with a name invented by Smirnoff for marketing. I prefer a whiskey buck with ginger beer and good rye... and lime.
The Gosling's Ginger Beer is really good if you can find it in a store that sells it for the price of soda (ie a market not a liquor store). It's good on it's own, but I usually don't drink it that way.

My favorite here in the States is Blenheim. They have normal, hot and diet. I don't like the diet at all (grabbed one by mistake once). I seek out the Hot. I am definitely addicted.
Thomas Henry is good stuff, too. In Germany, I found it in the liter bottles. Here it is usually just in the small mixer size.
It goes well with a good gin, as well..

Cock and Bull is one of my favorites but it's pretty strong for a beginner.
Fever tree is a nice smooth one for beginners. I will drink mine in Moscow mules, dark and stormys or by itself. It is my drink of choice.
Gosling will probably be the easiest to find.
Bundaberg is another good one from Australia.
My only other advice is stay away from Reeds. It's aweful.

The reeds extra isn't bad. I liked the original when i first turned on to it, now it just doesn't have enough kick.
Having a Blenheim Hot right now.

Those Blenheims are practically weapons grade strong. I can't drink more than half of one at a time. I just don't care for the flavor.

Ginger beer is sharper, less carbonated and less sweet. Ginger ale is basically carbonated water and ginger syrup. Ginger beer is (supposedly) fermented, but alcohol content is very low and it's still technically a soft drink.

I had more than my share of Ginger Beer over the past week on vacation in Tortola BVI - Dark and Stormy company on Bright Sunny Days! (Dark and Stormy is ginger beer with dark rum and lime). Mmmmmm.
Didn't even pay attention to what the local brand is down there but it was strong and delicious

I have had a few good commercial hard ginger beers but the best I have had is homemade.
More rounded flavor and more bite than most commercial options.
