Engine remanufacturers

Post by lindel »

Ok, the time is coming close where I can afford to put a new engine in the wife's rig. The question is, which company is the better to buy a long-block from.

I've looked at Jasper, Eagle, ATK for the major suppliers, but I'd rather get opinions here than read them on their websites. If anyone has other suggestions, then fire away.

My Engine guru liked the Jaspers. He owned an 18 stall garage in Arlington Tx.
I had my 401 rebuilt by A-1 in Arlington. It was perfect but the manager was a friend of mine.

Good Luck.. Don S..

Thanks, Don. My next door neighbor says Jasper is bad juju, but he also roots for the Bears...I take most of what he says with a grain of salt.

I too am starting to look around for an engine builder. What i have read so far is that some warranties are only good if you have an SAE cert mechanic or a certified installation shop install it. There are plenty of machine shops here in San Antonio, so i think im going to go with someone i can actually see. I think that would be the best way to go, because you can ask them to do the extras like fix the oiling issues and RV cam.

I'm having it installed, both for warranty purposes, and because it won't be very pleasant up here working outside, or in an unheated garage in the very near future (we've already had a light snow and some frost).

I know a FSJ that got a Jasper long block with stock cam in 2005. The motor is still strong today after 9 years of regular use.

When I worked for Schucks before Ouray in '02, we lost a contract with the city due to Jasper supplying 4 bad motors in a row.

Naw, I'm in Atlanta. Born and raised in GA but my dad is from Chicago. When I was a kid, I had a choice. Root for the toothless Falcons or pull for the Monster of the midway! You can imagine which was more attractive to me.

Your Cowboys look good - I hope Jerry sees what amazing things a quality OLine can do. I am a huge UGA fan and Bears fan - love watching the big uglies in the trenches.

Gotcha...I just love to watch the game...if my team wins that week, all the better (the last 20 years, give or take a year, have been a little dry...). I'll have to root for the Razorbacks tho, Mom's an Arkie ;)

I decided to let the installer source the engine, as that was going to be my best deal. He's buying a Jasper, so we'll see how it goes. I'll be dropping FI and a DUI distributor on/in, once I get it back.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Jasper, sourced by the shop I took it to. I haven't driven it (it's the wife's car), but she's happy with it so far. Next step will be fuel injection an a DUI dizzy.
