Wheels question for my 83, thanks (vid of our modded 83)

Post by Mickfluff »

I happen to like the wheels on the Wag but wife would love another look to swap out to and move back and forth from swapping out wheels... (keeping current set up but having another set up as well, older look) I bought the truck for her and personally like the fact she is into two sets of wheels.
She likes the current set up but would like an "older look" if possible....the link to the truck FS on hemmings below shows an idea of a look she likes... older style etc...

http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dea ... 97025.html

assume based on the hub depth the answer is no but did Jeep make any wheel that would fit on our 83 that looks a bit older like even a wheel hubcap set up? I do need to mount 31's on the wheel as the truck has 3' lift etc... Thanks for any help...

any suggestions?

this is her truck currently.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NM_Z1Rcj8w4

That's a good looking truck and I like the current wheels too. There are lots of options. If you go similar to the hemmings ad you would have steel wheels with hub caps. This would provide even a larger array of possibilities since you can swap hub caps too.

There are a few stock wheel options as well. My81 came with a 'bullet hole' wheels. There was also a slotted mag option that looks pretty good as well.

The steel wheels used were 15x7 in most cases, some were 15x6. The 60's used a different lug pattern. But the hub caps will fit 6 lug steelies.

Beautiful wag!

That is a very beautiful Wagoneer. She is really going to love that Jeep.
My wifes is having some engine issues and has been sidelined for a few weeks. She has been going through with drawls and hinting daily about missing her Jeep. I love it when she gets in it and talks to it like an old friend... :D

This sounds like great news as I was fearing it would not be possible at all as the hug centers on the current wheels come out very far and haven't popped them off so wasn't sure how far the actual hub came out and if it would even fit/hide behind a hubcab... sounds like many here think it will not be a problem.

Ok so on the hunt I will be for 4 steel wheels and hubcaps.... if anyone knows of a clean set or where I can buy please comment and thanks in advance.... again as always input and help much appreciated. Also will the offsets be the same on the steel wheels as my current rims as cant have the wheels tucked in any farther etc... as the stance now is perfect.

thanks all...

and yes she really likes it.... this was our first summer with it. Off season now and snow is near so will be put away soon for hibernation...

In the 60's the front hub cap had a hole in it for the locking hub to be accessed. You do not have locking hubs, but the hub is still there.

15x7 steelies should have the same backspace as your factory alloys. I used to have a set of each.

Dang that is a nice Grand!

The older style hubcaps would not look right IMO but it's not my Jeep <grin>

Is this what you are looking for?

That Wag is pretty! :-bd

FYI - 31x10.5x15 tires a just a bit wide for the stock 15x6 steel wheel. They fit 15x7 much better and wear more even...

thanks all and yes either of those style hubcaps would work.... on each set shown are the both missing centers for two? Are they for sale?

I may try and find steel wheels new in the correct offset, lug set up etc Anyone aware of any companies that sell new steel wheels for older rigs? Figure by the time I find them used and pay premium shipping the cost may not be that far off from a new set assuming new has good ship rates...

You might check with jsinajeep for a used set of stock steelies.

Thanks Flint we have PM.
The caps with the missing center are for the Jeep with the lock out hub on the front.
I will try to get pictures of the three different caps I have tomorrow or Fri.
