Why? Because Straight Pipe Wagoneer (Just for fun)

Post by Cataldo »

First of all, this is simply to not be running open header in the inter period until I get the exhaust done.

I am really leaning towards side pipes, 2.5" with large glass packs or some other straight through muffler (Not 100% if I am ready to jump off the Glass Pack and side pipe ship). I am trying to figure out the best way to work in an H-Pipe as well. I am thinking that I'll run them down from the Hedman shorties http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hed-69648 and cross over just behind the rear spring mount, at this point work in the H-pipe.

Haha, is sounds pretty mean! Do you think the Glass Packs would be annoying on the highway?

Meh. Loud is exciting at first but gets old fast. IMO.

Would be fine if you never leave the pavement or 2-lane Forest Service roads. Lots of other destinations near San Berdo though.

Pretty sure you want your H-pipe to be as far forward as possible.

The cross over will have to hang kind of low to make it work with side pipes. You also want that cross over to be as short as possible. If it has to stretch from frame rail to frame rail, there is almost no point in having it.

Yeah it was old by the time I got home (victorville to san bernardino). Yeah unfortunately with the exhaust it's a whole ton of sacrifices. Full lengths down to shorties, around the frame for the h pipe, although it would have been tight bends to go in between the frame and spring anyhow.

Eh imma run big mufflers which ever way I go, the h pipe makes a big difference in sound/drone/glass pack sloppyness.

The glass packs will ruin whatever performance you gain by the H pipe though. If you really want good performance, don't use a glass pack, they have horrible flow characteristics. If you want a straight through muffler, look at some of the ones that dynomax has.

The old Model T "Dee" pipe mufflers work better than glasspacks for power and sound.

I fired up my wag on open headers (er manifolds?) for about 5 minutes when I had the exhaust off one day.

That was about 3 minutes too much. It was fun/cool for literally about 2 minutes then i felt bad for the rest of the neighborhood and my ears were telling me to shut it down.
Well it ain't just the smoke and the traffic jam that makes me the bitter fool I am But this four-wheel buggy is A-dollaring me to death.
