Searching for an JEEP Dealer in the 1980's

Post by fossy »

Hi guys.

I hope I'm right here. I'm new at this forum here.
My name is Mathias. i'm 36 years old and i live in Germany. Since yesterday I've own an black 1980 Jeep Cherokee Laredo, 1st hand with only 47.088 miles. :D The car was ordered from Germany in the end of 1979 and reached Germany in march 1980. Here it became registered for the first time. In the car there was an warranty sticker from the local dealer how has delivered or sold the car.

It is written:

"Jeep 1980 Limited Warranty And Service Policy"
Zone / Dealer Code |39| / |2367|

My hope and my question is it possible to find the dealer who sold this Jeep?
Is that possible? Does anyone of you what was Zone 39 in the 1980's and knows a dealer code 2367?

Any answer and information would help.
Thank you very much.

Best regards
Mathias

Hello,
The Zone 39 is Germany and the Dealer Code appears to be the AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange) PX at Rammstein AFB. It may have been Mannheim as my documentation is limited.

wow, i don't know where you guys get this stuff! Some Joe ordered himself a Cherokee while in DEU and didn't bring it home with him... Someone must have offered him a nice price to pass it on.. I know modern Jeeps are quite expensive over there, even compared to the crazy prices of JK's here.
Pretty cool stuff.
One day I will wake up and realize that my jeep is complete...one day, I just know it.

RIGHT?!!
I still have boxes of records from my military career. I bought a 79 AMX Spirit and a Yamaha XS 1100 while stationed at Wiesbaden. It took about 14 weeks for the AMX delivery to AAFES Rammstein and 5-6 for the bike. Looking at my original invoice for the AMX shows a dealer code of 2367 and the Yamaha shows 1825. I assume each brand got it's own zone and code.

Who knew this info would someday be useful to someone?

You guys are awesome!!! Really! Especially Tatsadasayago. a thousands thanks :-bd

The car has only one owner! The cars was admitted to a German BMW car dealership. This dealer is still alive and active today.
I also contact them but got no reply yet. So maybe they ordered the car directly at the Air base?
Is it possible for me to contact the AAFES to if they find maybe an old trasportation protocol or any other document what says where the car came from? I've got no original bill with the car except the warranty card.

I thank you so much for your help.
Attached a picture of the car. Now he is going to be restored.

Thank you *thumbup* Im proud. Belive me. But prices here are much higher here for these cars than in the states.

I have photos of some brochures in German somewhere on my hard drive. I will look to see which years they were. I am thinking they were later such as 1983-85.

Thanks for the links.
I've bought also an original (paper) brochure on ebay.
But until now I found nowhere a brochure from a 1980 Jeep Cherokee! This is what Im looking for since my car is a 1980.

I also found the digital brochures on the internet and saved them. But paper is paper :-)

Does there any official information like a brochure exist for a Jeep Cherokee SUPER Chief? I know it was a dealer package but I neet an official document, sheet of paper, brochure - what ever to get my car licensed as a historic car because of its 2,5" lift and 33" tires. So any help would be great.

AAFES may still have the old documentation. I suppose it is worth a try.
