258 vs 360 bellhousing

Post by BCRAWLER »

Guy in the next town over has a Honcho for sale with a standard. The 258 6 cylinder is dead. Have access to 2 360 rebuildable engines. Stepside unit. Been sitting for 4 years as I remember. Not sure if can save decals as paint badly faded. Offered up $ 800 and laughed at. Used as a plow truck. Had it up for $4000 4 years ago. Would like to save truck and use to tow 5th wheel trailer. Need 360 power. 18 foot trailer.

Lots of differences between the six and V8 trucks. What year is this? The bell is the same for all FSJs with manual transmissions in the 70s, but the adapter and input shaft is different. A lot more is different than just the bell housing. Search and you'll find lots of discussion.
