Hydroplaning in my J truck

Post by twisted frame »

Heavy rain + plus rutted highway + empty FSJ except for driver and passenger = Be careful!

This is more of a reminder than a question, and might be a little more oriented towards pickup owners, but anyway...I had a bit of a scare yesterday cruising downhill at about 50 MPH, nothing in my J's bed at all, whenI had to hit the brakes a bit when the car in front of me decided to slow way down. Everything ended up fine, luckily. I was at least 4 car lengths behind the car ahead of me. I fishtailed just a little, got off the brakes as soon as possible and everything straightened out, but I wouldn't want to repeat it again.

My tires a Toyo Open Country A/Ts with at least 50% tread, but I'm not sure any tire would have helped much in this situation, aside from a dedicated highway tread known for great performance in the rain.

You may want to check the adjustment on your rear brakes, its possible they are too tight since it happened when you put the brakes on.

1. I'm happy to hear that you are driving the Jeep around.
2. I agree with Stuka.
3. THREADJACK Shoot me a text sometime. I want to do a little FSJ get together.
