Awesome, on the Eagle, the module is right next to it on the inner fender. I should be able to run the wire right over to it. :-bd

I ordered a new drvr door handle and rear hatch struts, should be here Thurs, and today I brought home an oil change, HEI dizzy cap, wires and Autolites. I should be quite busy this weekend and might have a new ride... Image

Depending on what part of '81 it was built in, you may want to do the nutter bypass as well.

Nice score Jeff! :-bd There is a lotta Jeep and Rambler there. I really like our wagon though it has been parked for about a year. I am going to resort to using a shop to get the 4.0 and Renix FI working properly. I lack the patience to figure it out why it is running like crap. Curious to see how the Weber upgrade works for you. Winter driving with 50% or so 4wd gets about 18 and 2wd services gets about 22 on the 90 XJ 4.0. One thing I really dig is it is so easy to swap out the 119 or 129 for a 208, 219, 228 or 229. 8-)

Hey Flint. Image

You think like me, upgrade. I will drive it like this, and see if I cant find another donor. I would love to find another H.O.
I was curious about the t-case thing. Thanks.
This one has the vacuum front axle, is it the same set up and the wagons?
This one is IFS. Looks like a miniature version of the 2013 Duramax 3500HD I just did a lift on...

Very sweet find! I always wanted an sx-4. Ive had two sedans and a wagon and currently have a 86 sedan. I had the 4 speed in my 84 sedan and got 21-22 mpg avg with it.

Jeff - Yes on the vacuum disco on the axle. I thought that was only 83 & 84 though. With ours, the PO installed a rebuilt 4.0 and 229, rebuilt the 998a and locked the front axle. I have shifted it on the fly to 4wd and back to 2wd as high as 55 mph. You can remove the lock pin on the vacuum shifter or install a newer one from a FSJ or Eagle.

I did the 727/NP229 swap in my wagon. I have the case and valvebody from a 999 out of a '99 Wrangler I had planned to use the original 998 internals and swap them in it (pretty much same trans except better converter neck and it has a bolt in rear sprague) Breaking my shoulder last summer kind of killed that idea. It has the hole for the CPS already and you'd only need a Wrangler flexplate and torque converter for the EFI swap.
I'm getting ready to move soon (closer to grandkids) so ALL my spare parts and cars are going away.

The front is actually Caddy FWD axles with an S10-like diff. (S10 axles work for lifted Eagles)

I drove a AMC Spirit for a few years, 83-85. It was a nice little 2wd car. Straight 6 with an auto.

WOW, this thing almost runs. Image
I did new Battery, power and ground cables to block and starter. Used, but cleaned up one wire HEI off another 258, new cap, rotor, wires, plugs, a few squirts of PB Blaster in each hole while the plugs were out. Oil and filter change (I know, it was the one on sale, so I got it) and turned the key until I got oil pressure. The guage said it had a couple of gallons in it, so I gave it 5 gals of premium, pulled the out put on the fuel pump and turned it over enough to get a couple of inches in the bottom of a coffee can. Re attached the fuel line, poured a little in its mouth and it fired right off and purred for about 10 seconds. It runs good, just wont idle, at all, no matter what I tried. I talked with a buddy today and he says he has a webber, just has to find it.

Ok, enough rambling, heres the pics. It still has ALL the emissions in place.

I snapped a couple of pics of the front axle. I also confirmed its an NP129 case.

Once it was semi running, I drove it around to the front yard and the family gave it a bath. My wife named it "Tenny" because she thinks it looks like a big tennis shoe. And so it looks like its a keeper. Image

Try crossing #1 and #6 wires at the cap, backfire it a couple times and put them back. It may idle after that.
