Joe Moore Reservoir 3-13-18

Post by fulsizjeep »

This CO state park is accessed by Millwood Rd and FS road 559 off hwy 184 between Mancos and Dolores. It is a 20 minute drive from home. FS 559 connects to Chicken Creek Trail from the west. It was a bit early to go far but at 7800 feet, it was pretty dry around the reservoir which was still froze over. There was a fair amount of snow in the ponderosa pines where there are some private owned cabins on the other side (north) of the reservoir.

Thanks! Yeah, it's tough. Really looking like 2000 all over again regarding fire conditions. About 40% of Mesa Verde burned down that year.

I forget the numbers but if I remember right, there were around 1200 sites discovered during the post fire assessments.

Great pictures! Like you said, it looks like good thick ice on the water, but no snow. I wish I could have sent CO some of NH's snow in March...
