Okay... could use some collective wisdom. Rear window on the 87 Grand Wagoneer goes up with ease, and only down immediately after pressing up via the switch. Hard wired, it goes up and down without issue. Thoughts as to the solution?
You are saying if the switch is centered and you move it to down nothing happens but it you move it to up then to down it works?
What happens with the key switch?

Probly need a new switch. And also with the door switch removed that would probly cause issues too.. as the window switch on the dash goes through the switch on the door itself.
If the door switch is bad the switch on the dash may not even work at all

Thanks for the replies. I'll see if I can clean the switch.
The switch definitely doesn't work when the tailgate is open / down. There's a sensor on the driver side, if it's not engaged it cuts the power. I'll double check those too. Thanks!
About that little safety switch: Myself and many others have bypassed that. Tearing apart your tailgate from inside to eventually find
that switch is the problem will make you a believer. It would be good to know if your window motor is a two- or three-wire motor.
Makes a difference in how the switches are wired and how you go about rewiring for relays, if you choose.
