Opinion on the 4350 motorcraft carburetor?

I have a 4350 motorcraft carburetor in my 1975 jeep j10. I’ve had some problems with it idling bad, now that’s fixed but now it’s pouring out gas. I was planning on getting a complete re manufactured one to keep it original but I’ve heard it’s a junk carburetor and to not waste my money on it. What’s your guys opinion on it and do you guys think I should just put a Edelbrock in it?

You understand that the base pattern of the 4350 is unique? Not like Quadrajet, not like Holley/Edelbrock, unique. There used to be an adapter plate available to convert from the 4350 pattern to either Quadrajet (most common spread bore) or Holley (square bore).

Lacking the adapter, to go Edelbrock, you'd need the pre-4350 iron manifold or an aftermarket square-bore manifold.

Another alternative would be to have your 4350 rebuild by an actual carburetor shop. They still exist, and I think you're more likely to get a quality rebuild that way rather than trust an exchange carb. Kinda think there are not enough cores out there anymore for a reman factory to keep stock.

It is possible to make an adapter from a piece of aluminum. BTDT. Only tools I needed was a drill press and a die grinder. I had to buy a bit specifically for aluminum (ca $25) and a set of large bits (Harbor Freight). You need to start the large holes, then enlarge and shape them with the die grinder. Likely you could use a fly cutter or hole saw in a drill press to make the initial large holes, but you really need the drill press for either of those tools.

I’m curious on your guys opinions and experiences with the 4350. Not converting it. I was looking at getting it rebuilt by the shop but it will be around $200 CAD and the carberator has a crack in it. it’s $400 CAD to get a brand new re manufactured one so I was curious on weather I should just get that one but now I’m getting opinions that it’s a bad carburetor and not to waste my money on it.

Just to be clear - remanufactured is not new. It may be new to you, but it's an old core. No personal experience with the 4350 - I hear it is not well loved, but others say it worked fine for them. Any carburetor is a fussy, fractious thing IMO. There is only so much you can do with mechanical metering powered by vacuum.

Yes I know what re manufacturing means I meant “brand new” as in its hasn’t been used after it’s been re manufactured lol. It would be super rare to find a brand new 1975 carburetor.
