Trying to decide whether to paint it myself or have it powder coated. What's more durable and will last longest, paint or powder coat? Also have a set of Cherokee Chief wagon wheels that need redone, anybody have good experience powder coating their wheels? My only experience with powder coating so far has been my HiLift hack which after 8 years of normal use looks pretty tore up.

with that roll bar i would powder coat it since it isnt gona be hitting rocks anytime soon, but with the wheels i would paint them because when they do chip you can just touch them up unlike powdercoating.

Powder coating is great. Although it can be pricy to powdercoat larger items. Its only real downside is if you do chip it, you can easily fix it properly. You can paint the chipped area, but paint is much thinner than powder coating.
Personally, as long as I was not always hauling things around, I would powdercoat it.
I'm leaning towards powder coat for at least the rollbar now. Don't really haul anything with this Jeep except for the 4 wheeler every now and then. Any idea what the cost is like to get something powder coated?

I think eithecr way is going to yield similar results in the long run. Just harder in the future to clean off powder coating, unless blasting it. If you go with a powdercoat job, make sure it's a UV resistent product.

By the way. The cragers on my dads TJ are powdercoated and they still look great after 6 years. Shine right up with a damp rag.
Thanks man! I think I'm going to have the wagon wheels that I have stashed away powder coated and wrap them in some tall and skinny tires. 33x9.5R15 unless I can find some 34x10.5R15's.

I *wish* that Rambler was mine! I was at the mechanic for something and it just happened to be there, hands down the nicest 440 I've ever seen in person.
