Not sure if it's just a setting, but this is the only forum that doesn't do that without right clicking and purposely opening in new tab. I'm using Firefox, btw.

With Firefox, I use the "Cool Previews" add on and you hover over the thread and it comes up in a pop up window. Move your pointer to the next thread and the preview changes to the new link. I am replying in a pop up window.
So this feature existed in PHPBB2. We run PHPBB3. The reason it was removed was to achieve XHTML 1.0 Strict-validation for the whole board. Which means its standard compliant, however it means we miss out on that feature.
So, I just went to recode the area that handles this, and it works fine until you go to edit a message. At which point in tacks on some HTML to the end of your URL that then shows up in the message. Which is not acceptable. Its possible this is because I run a pretty customized Style, and not the default one (ProSilver).
I will look into this again in the future. It would be very nice to have, so I will keep you guys posted.
Yup, right click-select works too. I was just providing a quicker, alternate option. I grew accustom to using middle button to open links in tabs long ago, so that's just what I always do now.
The few forums I visit don't auto open, learn something new all the time on website coding options. XD
I open the new posts tab (from the pull down on the top right) then right click on the tiny red "first post since you were here last" and open in a new tab. Open the ones that interest me (if there is more than one page of new posts, make sure you open the extra pages in other tabs so they aren't default marked read after a few minutes) then re-check for new posts.
