I had never owned a jeep of any sort before, and I have never took on a project vehicle before. I'm most likely way in over my head, but for some reason unbeknownst to me, I couldn't say no to that 1976 Cherokee 401 that had been sitting (not ran) on the other side of town for over 6 years.
...so here I am. Been here lurking for about a month, and visiting to steal knowledge for probably another month before that, just figured I'd say hello and voice my appreciation for all the information here, and over at the ifsja site, as I have been abusing both quite frequently.
My first FSJ was a 68 long bed that sat in the weeds for 5 years before I snagged it for 600.00 this was ???? Many moons ago and the FSJ problem continues to plague me. You've come to the right place.
I would run away now while you still have sanity and some financial stability.

I am on my 3rd Wagoneer and my first restoration. I have never done anything like this before but you are going to learn on probably the best vehicle. Parts are pretty easy to come by, there are no computers and you have plenty of room to work (as in they are not a compact vehicle). You also have a wealth of knowledge right here on this site! You will also have a car that you will rarely see on the roads. And when done it will be worth $40k! Right guys?
Here I sit in my little tin castle with my '84 GW needing its water pump replaced of over two years now. The problem as they say is in having the energy to dig in and do it. Various life issues have gotten in the way but I am hopeful of getting "Swervin' Irvin" running this summer. I, too have been a lurker and have enjoyed the repartee. Just introducing myself from my iPad in East Bremerton.
My life wasn't the same for over six years now. A friend and neighbor owed me some money and signed over the title to Swerving Irvin. Since then he has been a treasure. I just hate seeing him not running but when you don't have the energy thanks to medical issues... Gotta fix the electric window track as well as the water pump.
I know the feeling, just be careful because a simple fsj fix can turn into a BIG idea and alot of time/money. My j20 was gonna just be a clutch and rhinoliner over the rust after some rust stopper and drive it and have a good first truck for under $1000. Now, its gonna be getting a Isuzu 4bd1t ($1000-1500), nv4500/np205 ($1000), and alot of custom stuff from a mixture of fsjs with rust free parts ($79 wagoneer).
