Driveshaft clunk?

Post by AwesomeJ10 »

Something has a very pronounced clunk when I release the brake pedal after coming to a stop. Its almost like a double clunk. Happens every time and is very pronounced. Very repeatable.

The problem still exists after an axle/spring/motor/tranny swap. It's definitely in the rear and I think it's the 1350 rear CV driveshaft or the atlas as they are only common parts after the swap.

I'll try and explain again; driving along on the street. stop light turns red, so I slow down to a stop. no clunk. when I release the brakes there is a very pronounced clunk.

What could that be???

My xj did something similar (single thump), it was the slip yoke when the suspension settled a little. I'd check out the d shaft slip.

Try to brake hard, see if it'll clunk with the brakes still on but suspension settles a little more...

I'm thinking the driveline, or maybe something loose cause by braking axle wrap? Does this have flexy leafs?
