western slope FSJ'ers?

Post by blue beast j10 »

I am noticing that there are very few if any FSJ'ers on the western slope of Colorado, was wondering if I am the only one in the area or are there others just in hiding?

I've been trying to talk my boss into transferring me to GJ for 5 years or more. He just won't let me go.

Yeah, Fulsizjeep and jeepstress live down south of you a ways, and flatbackdragon lives in GJ proper if he still lives at all. It's been at least a year since I've heard from him. I coulda sweared we had a member in Durango and one in Glenwood Springs, but I think they might have been the 2-3 posts and disappear types.

Can you still get out to the bookcliffs behind the airport in GJ by 29rd or 27 1/4 rd? I usta love bombing around out there. Huge abandoned reservoir in the middle of nowhere. Cool stuff!

REDONE yes you can get to parts of it and I do believe you can still get to the earth dam out there on 29 Rd and the mud pit but I prefer the back side of the bookcliffs there are some pretty nice trails back there and if you turn in the right places you can find some ghost towns although I probably have forgotten the way to most of them after 25yrs of no way to get to them, found a couple when I had my 75'cherk chief S but what I really like to do is run from Cameo to Fruita and the trail from west of Mack to Green River is a nice ride also.

and on the other post no I have not met anyone from this site yet, will probably be Ouray next year before that happens unless someone comes this way and wants to go wheelin

I'm no longer on the Western Slope. LOTS and LOTS of good wheeling tho. You can go from Mt Garfield all the way to the UT border and then some.

Yeah! Last time I tried to take old 6&50 from Mack to Green River (Utah) it was gated about 7 miles into Utah by Halliburton. Tried getting back on in Westwater too, but it was gated there also. They got the gas rights out there and more new wells than I can count between I-70 and US40. I bombed around and found plenty of interesting stuff on top of the Utah bookcliffs south of Bananza (Utah), but all the roads to get up/down the bookcliffs were gated as well as old 6&50.

there were some trails that more resembled goat trails than roads but you could go around most of the wells at least 4yrs ago you could don't know now and then travel the back side of the book cliffs but have to be careful not to get into reservation land the Indians up there aren't real welcoming for the most part but I did find ways around can get kinda sketchy in some places but made for nice day runs
