I just want a good reliable motor nothing for racing. I'm leaving it a Quadra-trac so holeshots will not be in its future.
I made a set of fuel lines for my 1981 just like factory, except they are coated aluminum ;) ;) No more rust for me and my fuel lines and my brake lines are stainless. :-bd

I need to get the engine out of my 81 so I can scrap it out. I need the driveway open so I can get that engine dropped into the Utility bed truck and then roll the J10 into the garage for its engine swap. Putting in a 360 to make it moveable and start modifying it to get ready for the 401 next spring.

I think both of us need to have a WOT or two :-bd :-bd

Image

That's what I get for leaning on something while under the thing.

This goes out to my FSJ Prissy homies.
Image

yes I actually cleaned and painted something..

But I'm keeping it real..
Image

And after messing with those lines.. so is the jeep.
Image

Oh yeah..
Image

Giant puddle of brake fluid from the line I broke trying to fix other lines..

The Saga continues..

I know these are not as fancy as SOMEONE'S stainless lines.. ( HOOT! ) :D
But it's done right, made by free hand and all mine. I'll get some pics of "Lines down the framerail 2.0" next time I'm up there.
Also..

Gotta love a new box.. this has sped me up tremendously. This also keeps my stuff mine.. As you can see by the background this shop is a disaster, thankfully not my disaster but being able to keep my stuff separated and handy for when I need it will keep the peace.

Maybe one day I will show you how to bend steel lines. I made exact replicas for my fuel lines. That is one thing work taught me to do very well. Having real tubing benders is also a huge plus. I bought out an old hydraulic field service guy.

Bad news.

Interesting day today.

First up was investigating why the engine turned an oil filter into a projectile.

Image

Pretty simple, and came out by hand. Literally this was finger tight.

And once again my being a pack rat has paid off..
I just so happen to have THIS kicking around in the bed of the truck.
Image

That's the one off the old engine.

The parts were a little different. I guess the casting changed over time. The old one had a metal spacer that held in a spring and a diaphragm.
I just used the spacer in the same spot sans spring etc and bolted it on. And screwed on an AC Delco PF-24.

Then set about bleeding the rear brakes and making sure we were go for startup.

I shot a vid of the third start. but photobucket is being slow. I'll post it later.

It blew the oil filter off the threaded stud?

Yes it did!
The threads on that stud were a little worn, maybe with the increased oil pressure from the upgraded pump was just a little too much for it.
Swapping the stud seems to be working out. Had it running and driving for a couple hours off and on yesterday, no leaks aside from a little dribble from a transmission line, I'll need to take it apart and redo the flare.

Lines down the frame 2.0
Image

After running and driving for a while. Nice and tight.
Image

Little high torque starter with a jumper wire to activate the thing.
Image
New wires too :D

Aint pretty, but it's solid. And not bad for a flux wire harbor fright mig.
Image

These bleeders opened right up, I'm so glad I anti-seized those when I installed the wheel cylinders a year ago.
Image
Those don't look a year old do they? sheesh

And yes Hoot, I did get creative. It works if not pretty. Would love to see what you can do with this. Lesson 1 maybe?
Image

Still no movies.. not sure what the issue is. Might just have to upload to Youtube.

When tightening the compression fittings on your tubes put a dab of light oil on the ferrule and tube. It makes them squeeze together alot nicer. It will also reduce your probability of leaks also.

Really? I've always been told put em in dry.. ( there's a joke in there someplace.. ) and crank em down till they squeak.

BTW Hoot, do you have a spare cluster around? I think mine is kaput.

Cluster.. you know.. speedo, fuel level, coolant temp etc etc.

SO!

Yanked window tint off and cleaned glass, then went for some gas and a bath.

Image

You can get an idea how long I was scrubbing by the position of the sun in both photos..
I think I spent about 18 bucks just blasting the black/green gunk off... :-?

Image

Got a few leaks to lock down yet ( Oil and Transmission fluid )
So she's not quite ready, but oh so close...

Still chasing down little things.
Put my center section back into my core support.
Image

Image

Image

Until I got the heat and wire speed tuned in those welds were a horror show. I still don't think they are great BUT they ground down pretty well.

I was eyeballing the center section and dropped it punching a hole in my radiator, thankfully Advance honored the warranty and replaced it.

Been picking Serehill's brain on the electrical issues. The cluster is DOA and My spares worked for about 5 seconds today.. I had a working fuel gauge for a glorious 5 seconds.. so it's a start hehe

Senders swapped out and laid in the new metal.
Image
Still have a hundred little things to do but I've been driving it all weekend.
Short hops in town and a little highway driving. Good oil pressure and not even close to overheating even in the recent temps here.

Are these things ever REALLY done?
I doubt it.

Man, she's a beaut! Hopefully I see you out at the fall ECI thing. Hopefully my Waggy will have most of my "running, working" plans done and start saving for the expensive things like paint... Once the Waggy is done, my search for a truck will begin!
1990 Jeep Wagoneer: Running

2" BJ's body lift, 1.5" Rusty's AAL (in progress), K&N air filter,
31x10.50.15 BFG KM2 tires, Duplicolor Bed Armor, Bottom end gaskets (in progress)

On the horizon: Tint, Music System, Custom bumpers
