Temp Sending Unit

Post by Jjkage84 »

My temp gauge doesn't work. Should I replace the temp sending unit right off the bat, or something else?

Thanks guys!

Does the gauge pegged at the top or bottom?

My connector fell off the other day and the needle dropped to the bottom. (broken connection)

If you needle is pegged at the top, (and you're not overheating! LOL) then you have a short to ground or the sender or the gauge is bad.

I don't know if your 84 gauge works the same as mine(87), but I'd suspect it does.

IIRC the FSM/TSM has a diagnostic procedure for each of the gauges. Have you looked at that?

I haven't yet. I will have to check it out. Hopefully I'll be dealinf with this issue on Friday which will mean all my other junk will be done.

Just want to be able to tackle it in a shirt amount of time and not waste money since I'm hoping to license it on Friday.

So I grounded out the gauge, and it didn't even budge... Bad gauge?

It sets pegged at the bottom and doesn't move the slightest

could be the pins on the connector on the dash have de-soldered or the ground wire may be broken off.

Ok, awesome. I'll have to pull the dash anyways. My temp, oil, fuel gauges don't work at all and my speedo is way off.

Kind of wondering if it's just a fuse?
