I think that one is overpriced. I wouldn't pay over $4000 for one in that shape. It's most likely worth about $3000. It looks like there is rust around the windshield and I would be suspicious there is rust on the floor. There are a lot of guys here in Colorado that would check one out for you also. Me included.
So tomorrow im going to look at this one, the 89 i mentioned in the first post. The person claims he has had $2k offers, i doubt it. If he did it woulda been sold already. Im not too worried about the rusted wheel well spot. But i'll keep an eye out for the frame/floorboards and the other spots you guys mentioned. Alternator is bad, so i have to test drive on a fully charged battery that the owner says he has on a charger. So i cant drive it long.. If i could pick this up for 1200-1500 would you ? Assuming the rest of the body is ok rust wise and the trans and engine arent duds
The one in DC does not excite me. That rear quarter panel rust is only the beginning. For the $2-3K it will cost to repair it properly, you can find a better FSJ without rust.
That's where it's supposed to go. It's a resistance wire that tells the alt how hard to work. The coil has a ballast resistor that also drops voltage to the coil. If the owner mixed them up and hooked that brown wire to the coil instead of the alternator, the alt won't charge and the key won't kill the coil.

Ah ok, well maybe i could chew him down in price for the rusted panel in the back, and the fact that I have to "tow" the vehicle and get a new alternator and yada yada.. And then "assuming" i buy the vehicle i can come back with a person to drive my Jeep home while i fix the coil and alternator and drive off lol

the $8K wag has some of that rust on the D pillar by the tailgate... the rear quarter panel will be eaten from the top... and the inner tailgate door jam under the plastic is at risk as well.
The brown resistor wire.... forgot where it goes, it replaces the light indicator of low battery/alternator voltage/no charge to ignition powered wire
Ok, please help me understand, D pillar ?.. all these terms lol. Despite working on my 98 ZJ for 6 years tearing its engine and stuff apart.. I havent got the lingo on body panels and stuff down

Anyway i looked at the 89 this morning. Started right up and was a cold start but it had a knocking sound in the engine that kinda went away when warmed up.. oil pressure gauge was broken at 80psi.. The alternator brown wire wasnt plugged into anything.. it was on the two plug on the alternator. But when i follow it the wire was cut like 5 inches down.
The rust was worse thrn the 92.. the fuel tank rust on the frame was so bad it was like the frame was two peices lol front back and no middle hah.
Also alot of floorboard rust i could stick my hand through in spots.. interior was nastyyyyy like a pig was living in it. Rear door wouldnt open nore would the glass go down.
I wouldnt even pay 500$ for that POS.. The 6k$ 91 i looked at was in muchhh better shape.
Ah well.. no other wagoneers here to look at besides the 10-30k ones.
I dont undsrstand why a 91 wagoneer can go for 60k.. 91 isnt old or ( classic) imo.. its 7 years older thrn my ZJ and 1 year older then a 93 ZJ.. and you dont see 93 ZKs going for 60k.
I guess its because it has that antique look sigh

If you want to go to DC go a liitle further- this is in NJ, just over the bridge from Delaware
Do you know this guy or is this your Wag by any chance? I like the way the ad is written and if I was in the market and in the area I'd check it out. The only thing off putting is the single pic. it's easy to get a single shot that looks good, but that doesn't say much about the vehicle as a whole. Honestly, it looks like the seller isn't sold on letting go. Anyone interested should ask for an engine pic and an an interior pic before making the drive.

Yea i saw that one and one pic kinda made me go eh.. I like red though. There is another a nice red one on cl put on today. But they want 5k$ and they admit it has rist and i can see rear rocker panel rust and rust on the rear wheel well. Sooo based on the two ive looked at so far ima assume its rotten as well lols.
This one i really want.. Its soooo beautiful and looks like it has a solid underside. But i dont habe 13 grand.. I wish i had a rich friend i could borrow from lols i could pay him back by end of the year at the latest. Although id offer like 8k$ maybe i can see rocker panel rust bubbling the paint
