My '78 J10 had the quadratrac transfer case then it was switched over to a Dana 20. the rear axle offset is off to the side a bit and I'm wondering if it's going to vibrate.
I drove it home and didn't notice it but it had goofy tires and a lift kit so I'm not sure if I would have anyway. now I have the engine and everything out rebuilding it.
anyone have experience with this? if it's a problem would a double joint at the rear axle cure it?

Offset of that nature is nothing to worry about. I'd be more concerned with the lift, how it was done and the pinion angles.

All 78 J10s have offset rear axles, including the ones that came with a dana20, so it should be fine!

I took the lift out so now it's stock.
They all have that offset? I'd have lost a bet on that. I'll have to say I wondered how they cleared the gas tank with a centered axle so it makes some sense they were offset.

All WT and J-Truck axles have the same offset regardless of the trasnfer case used. Narrow tracks have two different rear offsets.

You should check output bearings, U-Joints, Pinion shaft slop and thrust angles to find the cause.
The most common cause is bad U-Joints.

Also make sure the u-joints are in the proper phase.
