rear window handing up whole trac and motor work

Has anyone had the rear power window (82 cherokee) recede 6-12 inches then stop, meanwhile the motor and trac continue all the way down. It picks up the glass on the way back up though. Thanks.

Either the regulator arms came disconnected from the lift channel or the lift channel has separated from the glass.

X2. The lifter bar has separated from the window. You can get new lifter bars from BJ's Offroad. Yours has probably rusted enough and has finally let go of the glass.

You will also want to get a new ruler strip, too. It folds over the window and then the lifter bar is pounded (GENTLY) into the window.

I appreciate the info, and will order a bar from BJ's, Is the ruler strip also what BJ's is calling a seal?

Before you order parts... take off the plate on the tailgate and look what broke off first.. For all you know the little clips on the arm simply broke off and the bar is fine.

I did take off the plate and saw bar traveling fine. Didn't look at clips though, thanks for the tip. I'll start there.

I would take it all apart. Worse case, you need the following parts:
-Tailgate window lifter channel
-Tailgate lifter seal (holds the glass onto the lifter.
-Window lifter clips.
-Tailgate glass side channel (if the channel rubber is bad)
-Inner and outer seals
Basically most of the stuff on BJs Weatherstrip-Tailgate section.

I ended up cutting two rectangular slots in the tail gate with my Dremel so I could access everything easier. Just put two piecs of sheet metal and screws over top afterward so I can get at it again if need be.

It's a bit of a bear to get it all working. It gets a little pricey but if you can't get the window down, you can't open the tailgate so you're kind of stuck with that.

You can unplug the motor and alligator clip the plug with 2 wires. Then connect to a 12v battery. One way is up, switch wires to battery posts and one way is down.

I'm waiting for side channels and clips from BJ's. And lifter seal. Motor is working, but I can't open gate till I get this fixed. Thanks for the tips.
