What do you all think about this trick, cut a grid to put under the cowl to help keep things from getting into the lost area of the vents.

Thats a great idea. I have had to pull PILES of leaves out of the cowl vents on each of my FSJ's.

Maybe even finer mesh?
Those mesquite trees have small leaves and that stuff really gets packed in there.
I'm sure my vents are 1/2 filled again.

Jeff the only problem I had with window screen was keeping it in place, because it was so thin.I'm looking for some thing that can be just slid in under the cowl and good to go.And not metal.
Tad a small mesh is what I'm looking for now.

Just a quick look at Grainger I think it could be found locally with some searching.
Would want something UV resistant or paintable.
Smaller than .25" hole, thin but rigid enough to keep it's shape in our heat.

Put the fine screen over that one ane it will stay in place. Even the 1/4" mash will let alot of trash in.

Looks good Bob. Yeah, maybe smaller mesh, but anything is better than open slots. Watch out for bones inside those air ducts. Critters get in there too. ;)

:-o

then there are also factory AMC bones to consider...

The reason I started looking at this is I did my chero Vaccumed out of vents, then 4" of crap on the J-truck,and now P2 so I can put in the new kick panels.
Okay, leave it to the girls they just found 12 sheets of what we need in their stash of project materials.Pic to follow soon as I cut one.

1/16" plastic mesh, comes in 13 1/2 x 10" sheets. It take 2 to cover the area at about $1.50 then paint and a few spots of RTV to hold in place. This just may work.

Is that mesh UV stabilized? You might want to consider that before your vents are clogged up with plastic mesh... :-?

Probably not UV stabilized, but it should be available at just about any craft store. They may have a UV stabilized version of it though.

We have the plastic canvas Bob is talking about in the P2 project. I am pretty sure he said he painted it before installing.
