How often do people change the fuel filter?
Directions on how to change out?
It was recommended that i move it away from over the engine and mount it to the wheel well. Has anyone done this and how did you mount it?

Thanks

Great question because my rig has multiple fuel filters and multiple tanks so I have no idea where it is really supposed to be.

I seem to need one about once a year, but I run TBI and it gets cranky if the filter gets too bad.

If you still have the stock style filter between the carb and pump, I would keep it there and just get a new filter. If you still have the return line hooked up, make sure the filter is oriented so the return line is the highest line.

As for multiple tanks, it does not hurt to have one at the tanks, before the pump and tank selector( keeps crap from clogging the ports), and then one in front of the carb.

I have e pump mounted on the frame rail with a clear fuel filter, and the oem fuel filter on the fender by the Ignition box, attached w zip ties to the cruise control cable.

On the 74 the clear fuel filter -no return on this model- is a bit forward below the windshield washer tank, and held by zip ties thru a hole on the inner fender.

Debatting about what type of see-thru filter to use due to strange observations.... the filter has collapsed, and not sure why, as it is after the fuel pump it is not overpressure or over vacuum, so I can only blame ethanol.

I use those same filters before my TBI fuel pumps so I can see when they get cruddy. I am sure if they were letting particles past, my injectors would be telling me. I have also had good luck with the Autozone version of that filter.
