Since I have continued to update this page with new products as they come out, I have renamed the thread. I will continue to update this thread with new products and news about JP. Thank you all that have supported me so far!

Thank you to everyone that replied months ago on this project, after 6+ months of designing and procuring quotes and revising the model for production, the final product is here! The Full Size Jeep and AMC door speakers have been reproduced via injection molding in ABS plastic to very closely match the originals. Check them out at https://www.johnsonproductionjp.com/

Original Post:

If you are on the Full Size Jeep Enthusiasts FB page you may have seen that I have been prototyping replicas of the door speaker grilles. I have 3D printed my own from PLA and had a service print some from ASA. For those that aren't up to speed with 3D printing PLA is the most common material used for printing; it's cheap, easy to use, and produces no odors. However, it has a relatively low glass transition point so it is not great for the interior of a vehicle and will warp or even melt. Hence why I had a service print some from ASA which is higher temp and UV resistance but is more difficult to print and would require upgraded parts to my setup.
I got a lot of interest in buying these when I posted the personal project on FB, but I only have one printer and these take up to 6 hours each to print. I initially did not plan on trying to sell these in mass but after thinking about it and more modelling I figured I might as well see if its feasible.

So I have been researching injection molding and contacting services that offer low volume (relatively) production runs. The biggest hurdle with injection molding is the upfront cost for tooling, so before I bite off more than I can chew I want to gauge the demand. I need to see if this is economically worthwhile. Right now I am only looking at two color options, black or tan (if possible), made from ABS or ABS-PC. I have no idea what pricing would be but would estimate $20 - $40 a pair. Please choose yes if you would purchase a pair if they were produced. If you saw my post on FB and voted on there please don't vote here. Thank you!

I think this is a really cool idea. Hopefully you get some good feedback.

bitchin replica! Not a bad price either, I would say yes to $40/pair for production quality ones. Id be curious to know how well the "mold" feature in Cura would work for DIY molding.

I dunno how I missed this post. These look to be the same as in the AMC Eagles. I'd be down for a set.

I would be all over this!

Have you checked out shapeways.com to see what their pricing lines up at? I 3d printed my shoulder bones with from a pre-surgery MRI, super cool to have a model of them & they weren't that expensive.

So far mine have survived, but just got the truck home recently, so when I get it running and using it, probably need a new set soon after.

Yes I would buy them @ $40/pr

Yes! Because mine will probably disintegrate the instant I touch them.

Hey everyone, apologies for the long delay since the last post. I am still working on this project and getting close to making an order with an injection molder. Hopefully I can have some parts in hand this summer! The last thing I am working on is what colors to offer on the fisrt run. I can use any pantone color which will get me very close to any OEM color. Currently I am planning on offering the nutmeg color like the OEM one I have from my truck, black and natural plastic finish. What other colors were available? What is the most common color for both Jeep and AMC?

I'd say black, tan, burgundy, natural (for custom colors), and a darker blue (many Eagles use this color) would be a good start.

Is it possible to get a couple of rough outer dimensions along with bolt hole spacing of the repros to make sure they'd work in my wife's Eagle?

Edit:
These are the fronts. They are 6 1/2" wide by 5" high. Unsure of the fastener locations.
Note, the once blue color is faded to a drab gray.

Also curious if something could be made to work for the rear speaker grills. They are larger and use a through fastener. If you're on FB, I'd hit up the Eagle groups to gauge interest as NOTHING is available for interior pieces. I'd pay just as much to have a set for the rear as the front doors.

If you need additional dimensions for either grill, let me know.

The 4 outer screw holes line up with the outer holes on the oem Jeep tabs. I designed it so that you can take your original tabs and put them on the new grilles. I will get a measurement when I get home.

Thank you for the pictures of the rear grille, I could definitely look into reproducing it after I get these going. Overall dimensions for the front speakers match what you measured, 5 by 6.5.

Awesome! I'm down for one set in either a blue color or natural that I can paint to match the interior of the Eagle. :-bd

Nutmeg works for me!

Will the plastic be compatible with painting from a SEM rattlecan? All of the plastic in our Volvo 240 has turned to dust and have had luck painting black replacements with SEM's color match for the original tan - can't even tell the difference. Wanted to bring it up — could be a good / easy option for folks and help limit your inventory / production run.

But I'd take nutmeg for sure.

The material is ABS which should be fairly paintable.
