door hinge springs?

Post by AustinAubinoe »

One of my rear doors is opening too fast. Turned out the spring in the lower hinge had broken in half. Does anyone sell these?

Wow,

What year did the hinges change?

The ones I have seen had nylon sliders that controlled the swing. 80's up to 84 or so.

The hinges changes in '79 (pre-79 opened 90 degrees, post-78 dont). The springs were used on grand wags only AFAIK.

Sure when I get I chance I will. The one door with the broken one definitely opened weird.

Off topic, but did they really refine the suspention after 85? Saw an ad that basically stated it was really designed for a comfy ride...

I cannot recall the exact year, but they went to a 7 leaf spring pack. More springs that are thinner provide a better ride than fewer thick springs.

Some still have the stiffer spring packs. I've had a couple of 87's with 5 leafs per pack, and one that had 3! I suspect the latter was a custom spring pack.

That's when they added the front/rear tracbar to take away the sway on corners that scares people that aren't used to it.
