RockSteady's 1974 Wagoneer

Post by RockSteady »

Hey Everyone! I just got my first FSJ last month and have been stalking FSJ Network and IFSJA and wanted to make an introduction and show off my new baby a little bit. I have made a big change and am selling my 2010 Tundra and making the Jeep my new daily driver. I love my truck, but I Love classic cars! And fortunately I am blessed with a job that gives me a company vehicle, so I don't do too much daily driving. #:-s tundra is still available, by the way. ;)

I picked this up from a guy who was in the middle of a father-son project with it, and then the son decided he would like a VW Thing instead, too bad so sad. So a lot of fixing up and preventative maintenence had already been done on it. Here's the spec's:

1974 Wagoneer original 401 THM400 QT, factory AC unit by dealer, 2" springs in front and 3.5" blocks in back. Taller blocks to level it out due to sagging old springs of the post type. Seats had already been reupholstered. QT rebuilt by Deetz's Offroad Specialties in Tracy, CA.

The bumpers were some heavy steel aftermarket things, and the PO fabbed up some nice brackets to attach these later model Jeep aluminum bumpers, which I personally like.

So far I have done the blocks in the rear, new Nutmeg carpet from ACC with mass backing and Dynomat the whole floor. I got a roof rack from FlatFourVW and am waiting for some mounting plates from Tad before I install it. At that time I am going to replace the headliner with the stock perforated vinyl material. And I flipped the tires around for that white letter out look. I removed all smog equipment, pump and air tubes, which will probably be posted for sale.

I am currently installing a double din stereo in the glove box, and getting the stock stereo and clock/ashtray area back to original status. The enclosure for the new stereo is turning out pretty cool, but that is for a different thread.

The body is a little rough, but I actually am happy with the way it looks. It has the right amount of wear and patina on it where it says, "I've been around, and I've done some stuff." And I'm not worried about door dings, or any dings. I just wish they had never bolted a spare tire carrier on the back. Now it has holes where the PO took it off, and where someone drove off with it not secured, and it swung open and hit the right rear quarter pretty hard. Oh well. Speaking of spare tire, they put an extra 23 gallon tank where the spare tire goes. That is going to change because I just purchased a 40 gallon aerotank from ebay from a member on IFSJA, who is probably a member here as well.

So thats the rundown. I can't wait to start some other threads on TBI and 700R4 conversions when I start on those. For now, it was nice meeting everyone and thanks for all the helpful information so far!

You too? Those factory wiper knobs are junk! Not sure what is holding mine together but I know the plastic is cracked to Heck.
