Heater

Post by tclancy77 »

My heater is stuck on high. Do fsj’s have heater core resistors? Is my board just fried? Where should I start?

Year, model, equipment? These cars were produced for a few decades.

What does the TSM say? Presuming it's a '77, There is a chapter in the TSM on the heater/defroster with diagnostic flow charts. The wiring diagram transfer on the Tom COllins site is not great in the TSM copy, but the diagrams in the electrical section are quite good.

Resisters would be on the firewall in the engine bay at least they were for my 90. Theyre a big plug with like 8 pins. Mine did the same thing as was unplugged

Typically the resistors are nichrome, like a toaster element. Typically they are placed in the heater housing, so their heat adds to the heated air going to the cabin. You can trace from the wiring diagram.

i would start with the heater resistor on the engine bay side of the heater core plentum next to the blower motor thats where i would start, 2 screws to remove it you should see 3 resistor coils attached to the plug pins they look like coil springs you can check them with an ohm meter to check the resistance or basic continuity
