It won't be in the TSM or the parts book. The parts book will show it but not a size, only a number.

Do you have a sample? Take it to the big box store and measure the thread. Or buy a thread gauge. Or compare to the bolts at the store. It's a coarse US thread (USS) either 3/8", 7/16" or 1/2". Or get a bolt in each size at the store and try them. Dorman sells chrome bumper bolts, if that's what you need. Any parts store can get Dorman stuff.

I believe thats for jist the outer bolts to hold it together ? I need the ones that bolt right to the frame. On the side and center. There are little flat brackets that push against the frame. 3/8 looks like the front ones but the two side seem way bigger.. Ima jist get 4 3/8 7/16 and 1/2 maybe even 9/16 those side holes look huge

Not 9/16". Went to look at my '77 and they look like 7/16".

They are carriage bolts... If you don't have a chrome bumper (or don't care about appearance) you can use carriage bolts from the hardware store. Special "bumper bolts" are carriage bolts with a thin chrome steel cap. Not special otherwise.

Measure the square hole in the bumper and compare to the shoulder of the carriage bolts at the store. Get the largest square shoulder that will go into the hole. Not rocket science.

HD/Lowes may not have carriage bolts in 7/16". Your local Ace will. It's a less-common size.

For the last time.. i do not need those rounded bolts.. i need the mounting bolts to the frame.

They are 7 16th too i just found out with my various sizes i bought

But the side plate doesnt like up with the hole on tje frame.

Is there some bracket im missing or this just wayy off in position.. the bumper lines up with the body and isnt bent.. so im not sure what to do with the side bolt im pointing at.. other than drill the plate lol.

That side plate is like 4-5 inchs off lol that bolt hole in pointing at is the 2nd hole... lol the first hole is 5 inchs back.. This bumper mount is way out of position..

I wonder if this is a diff 3 peice over what came with this Jeep.

Looks like ima have to cut this bracket off.. and weld a new position for it.

As for brackets on tje wrong side.. i never took it apart.. nore has it been in decades judging by the rust.

My loong plate is litterally different looking than yoirs and others online ive seen. It looks longer and has 4 holes. Vs two

Maybe you have the bumper on upside down? Or the brackets on the wrong side?

Taking pity on you :)

Deff not upside down. The slits for the long jack are downward. My plate looks diff than yours too..4 holes vs your 2.

Mine looks way longer too. So weird man. Like yoirs stops at the bend in the frame on the bottom.. mine goes like 4 inchs past it lol.

Can you measure yours from that big risted bolt on the top right corner to the first of the two smaller bolts on the frame? Im curious how long that plate distance is for you versus mine.

Looked at the book - all the same '76-78. All of these brackets are handed, ie left vs right different. Looks like my bumpers have never been off the truck.

Your part looks heavier than mine. Maybe something the plow kit added? "Slits for the long jack?" The end of the bracket with the elongated hole goes to the bumper.

Best I can measure, 11.75" from the outer bolt in the foreground above to the bend. Maybe 12.25" from bolt to bolt.

Yes it's rusty, but it's all there. Nearly all '77 pickups in the NE have been scrapped or returned to the earth, bit by bit.

Oh, for the bumper jack. Pretty sure the J-trucks came with a bottle jack, not a bumper jack. Most were delivered to the dealerships with no rear bumper, making a bumper jack somewhat less useful.

You could have the bumper face installed right and the brackets upside down or on the wrong side. Kinda think the problem brackets are not Jeep factory, but part of the plow.

Jtruckplowbracket.png

There ya go. Special equipment. Your PO might have pitched the originals or repurposed them when the plow was installed.

The parts book will help you - under $25 at RockAuto.
