Wiper Arm install

Post by Laredo Matt »

Getting ready to install the wiper arms when I finish up wiring the fan / trinary switch.

I recall it being pretty tight to get them off when I was tearing it down. Any recommendations to make it go smoothly? Use lithium grease to ease getting them on or don't?

There's a little pressure clip that seems to push back as you seat the arm on the pivot shaft then shifts back in place to hold the arms on once they're seated. Is it that simple or is there some special tool I don't know about.

Shouldn’t need a grease, anti seize would be what I would use if anything. The “clip” will just push over the end, no tools required. Get them as low as you can get on the glass and not hit the gasket. Removing them is easier with the correct tool but can be accomplished with a thick rag, screw driver and a little patience.

Check on the side of the arm at the pivot of the base and wiper arm. There should be a small hole there, and with the wiper mounted, you can pull the arm up and use a small screwdriver or nail to put in that hole. Now let the arm down until it holds off the windshield against that pin. You should easily be able to remove the arm off the hub with just a gentle pull.

I have the Lisle tool for removing the arms, but I don't recall using it (not sure where it is now). The spring in the wiper pushes down on the windshield, but also, with the help of the little tab seen above, it binds the arm end on the splines of the shaft. I've found you can push down on the hinge point and pull the wiper arm off.

The Lise tool makes the same action - look at the inset picture at the link - https://www.amazon.com/Lisle-65750-Wind ... ref=sr_1_3
