So my uncle is visiting and we got talking about jeeps. He claims that in Feb. of 95 that he searched for a 4.0 yj across NC for a month and could not find a single one at any dealer and that the dealer told him they were unavailable because of a factory fire, I believe it was just jeep trying to get rid of the 2.5 yj's they had left over before the tj's hit the dealer lots. Been searching for an hour and have found NO info on a factory fire where the 4.0's were produced. Need to solve this feud and prove him wrong, thanks, ncwag.

Yeah, no Wranglers made for the 96 model year. 95 model year YJ's are uncommon as they only made them for part of the year. Production then stopped so they could retool for the new TJ's. 97 model year TJ's went for sale in 'late '95 as I recall.

Thanks, that's all I needed to know. Don't see my uncle very much since he lives over 10 hours away. He doesn't understand that I'm a total jeep addict and feed on jeep history :D

Just looked it up. The '97's went for sale in spring of '96. But they started tooling for them in '95.

Car dealers have a tendency of twisting and perverting the truth just to make a sale.

I know of a few non car people folks that bought a YJ/TJ and were told it had a 4.0 when in fact it was a 4 cylinder.
