You would have to determine the tread size and pitch. If the headers already have a fitting, why not use it?

they dont have any fittings, they are just headers and not the stock manifold. :(

I dont think the guy I bought it from planned to use EGR so he just got headers without the port.

Silly question..... Will the inspectors know the engine had EGR just by the year? Can always tell them the engine didn't have EGR and have it taken out of the tune. 2003 didn't have EGR, fwiw.

Pretty sure there isn't a gasoline engine sold in the US that has not had EGR since around 1973.

And the 2003 5.3L DID have EGR.

I have a few more ports on the engine I am trying to figure out what they are for. Can anyone identify these? Thanks!

Plus the year and VIN of the vehicle the engine came from will pull up when they hook up to the ALDL plug.

Top pic is the canister purge valve. The hose goes to the EVAP canister. 2nd and fourth I think are PCV. 3rd I think is steam tube.

I know the 3rd is not the steam tube, i have identified that one already. What should I hook the PCV connections to?

Is there a more zoomed out version of #3?

EDIT: Looking again, I see where it is. Pretty sure thats the EGR tube.

I installed a 5.3 in my YJ in 2009, unfortunately Im not in the same town as the YJ but here are some pics I had on my computer.
# 2 is zoomed in pretty close but im pretty sure #2 & #4 will plumb together.

#3 on mine (and my buddies 6.0) came to us plugged and neither one of us ever unplugged it with no issues.

Hope this helps you! I've really enjoyed your threads and im definitely subscribed to this one. :D

Actually, there have been quite a few without an EGR valve. My '08 LY5 did not have one. The Olds Quad Fours came sans EGR too. Lots of others (both foreign and domestic), but I know those two for sure.

So, what is the tube coming out the front in pic 3?

Must be specific years or models. I know plenty of LY5's have EGR, you can buy EGRs and EGR delete kits for them. I am sure there are exceptions that do not have them, but passing emissions without one is a lot harder than with one.

But anyway, back on topic (sorry for the derail). Looks like the photos above have it figured out for you.

Best I could tell via a google search of images is that it attaches to the Brake power booster.
Here is an image I found with the hose attached to the back of the intake and it has the same connector as the 2nd image.Image

After 2002 gm did not put egr on the truck Ls engines. They still don't have egr. Most now have variable valve timing, which removes the need for egr. My intake on my 5.3 has no port for the egr. Check schematics for 2003-2007 lm7 engines, no egr. I'll post them if need be.

As for the Vin when hooked to the dlc, any tuner can change the Vin in the pcm in about 30 seconds. It's not hard.

Now, the pictures of circled parts.
1: Evap purge solenoid. Hook to the vapor side of the charcoal canister.
2: this is the intake side of the pcv valve tubing.
3: brake booster vacuum fitting/hose. I have a spare, I think, not needed if using hydroboost.
4: this is the pcv valve that needs to be connected to the intake port in picture #2.

I hope that clarifies those pictures questions, as everything is in one post.

For those of you that used the S10 fuel tank where did you get the fuel filler hose to work with the Jeep?

It's easy enough to put an electric pump in the stock tank.

No im mean the actual filler hose. The S10 tank and the jeep filler hard line are much different diameters

If you can find hoses for both sides, making a reducer is pretty easy.
