6.9 idi weight concerns

Post by nc wagoneer »

I've noticed alot of 6.9 idi ford motors going for less than half what most 6.2's are going for in my area. I have experience with the idi and COULD hvae a donor if my dad puts his nissan motor in the f350. The real question is how much weight can the d44hd handle?
Thanks in advance,

Well...a dana 44, by definition, is rated at 4400 lbs, if I remember right. The HD adds beefier tubes, so I'm sure you can pad that number up a bit, maybe to 5k lbs? (I'm sure there's a hard rated number around somewhere). For reference a D60 is rated for 6k lbs, I believe. So the D44HD is somewhere in between there.

It's the torque rating that's worrisome. 300lbs of motor plus filters and batteries
