Post by geofro84 »

this is my j200 tray back that I found in a paddock an got for $600
what i'm doing is fitting a landcruiser engine gearbox an axles to it
the engine is a 2h 4lt diesel inline 6 with an aftermarket turbo (it sound good but it is not huge power)
the gearbox is a h55 5spd an transfercase
the axles are 80 series with 4 wheel disc brakes an a rear limited slip
here's some pic they are backwards the engine on the ground is going in

Sounds like a cool build. SJTD, do you have an sd33? What sort of mileage are you getting? Putting a turbo'd nissan ld28 in my j20.

pics of the axles?

80 series axles are very, very strong. The rear will be a full float, but offset to the passenger side. Some of them came with factory electric lockers (which IMHO is why Toyota had true 4x4 years before Jeep did).

Any pics?

Looks like a cool project.

Do you live in NZ or AU? Notice the RHD, and we never got that engine here.

You will probably have to inboard those rear springs to fit the rear axle. But those axles should be great under it.

Is it slow to wind out or wind out and have to be shifted quickly?

:P How well does that hoist work in the dirt ;) Are the 80 axle going to be wide enough?

I wish I knew. Haven't got it on the road yet. Drive train is finished but the body is gutted and stripped for paint.

It's a 33T used in the '80 IH Scout. Supposed to be about 100 Hp around 160 ft-lb if I remember correctly.

HP is around 125-130 and tq is around 175-185 or so. So a smogged down 258 is about the same.
