Shift Indicator Parts

Post by Jeepin' Pete »

Hi all,
I haven't had a shift indicator since I've bought the wagon, and I'm trying to figure it out. I got the actual indicator, and I have the little spring clip that sits on the column housing - are there any other parts? I feel like I'm missing something...

I found this very old post by surfwagoneer:
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6237&p=183176#p183176

I have the parts in that picture: the little clip and the indicator - how does it all go together?

Thanks!

After looking, I found all the exploded diagrams at moparpartsgiant.com
Shift Indicator Parts.JPG
It looks like I need part 26, PN 83502571. The indicator I have is part 1, and the metal clip is part 25.
As per this thread: https://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/aut ... ndex2.html, I guess I'll have to go to a junkyard and see if I can find that little square box from a Chevy truck or van, as that part is not available new anymore.

Just wanted to follow up for anyone else with this problem.

That black square sleeve that the pointer slides into is the part in question. I ordered one from a place that sells parts for Chevy vans, as I believe that they used the same columns - we'll see!

When the sleeve comes, tilt your steering wheel down, then the black indicator will slide easily in. If the steering wheel is tilted up, it's not so simple.
