Coffin clearances

Post by Bakydnutbstr »

Replaced coffin in 86 grand wag , but couple issues. First bought tgw replacement coffin,
1st, when installed and bolts tightened the poly tank is resting against the cross member,I don't think it should for reasons of wearing. Its tight and snug, not moving.
Hold down straps are good and tight around tank before install.
2nd, The end of coffin seems very close to rear end so up down movement looks as it would hit, maybe a finger or two of clearance between them.
3rd, drive shaft clearance along side of coffin seems very close to shield.

Does any body have pic’s or have gone through this problem..?

Welcome to the board. I can go look at mine but I don't recall them being that close. My jeep is lifted too, so I don't think the rear is going to ever be close to the tank.

Will e,
Thanks for responding.
I replaced springs (4) standard w/o lift.
Found pics of original coffin but not in place. The tgw coffin is like I wrote is very close to rear end.

PICTURE
Enough clearance that I can slide finger around pinch point.
Strange , jump on back as hard as poss clears rear.
Looked at old coffin pic seems to be a bit rounder for clearance.
Guess time will tell.
Drive shaft clearance can slide hand along side of coffin and shaft.
Thanks.
Anybody else have pic of either tgw replacement coffin installed or pics of old one in place w/o lift springs
Thanks.

This is the tank to axle clearance on my 86 grand wagoneer. It's just on jack stands. no lift stock springs.

Gosh, I thought you were converting a Wagoneer into a hearse. Now I want to be buried in a polyethylene fuel tank.
I used to name my FSJ’s after their previous owners, I realized I had too many with five named Rick.

Dang raccoons again!

Rust is a color too.
