Torque Converter/Flexplate Choices

Post by Tio Pancho »

Hello all. Working on the engine rebuild. Block is machined. Rotating assembly is ready to be balanced. Bought new damper and flexplate. Realized that bolt pattern on new flexplate was different than the old one. Original flexplate had 6 attachment bolts. New one has 3. None of the 3 bolts lined up with the original flexplate holes. Which made me realize that I should choose my torque converter at the same time. Trans will be rebuilt soon.

Details - 77 Chief. 360 with small cam. Th400 trans. 3.73 gearing.
Plan on running 33 X 12.50 tires. Small lift. Will do some minor wheeling and camping. It is my 16 year old daughters car and will be primary transportation.
In looking at most of the TH400 converters and they have 3 attachment points. Any suggestions for torque converters? Stall speed?

Thanks in advance.

Engine is basically done. Trans is rebuilt. Cleaning up the engine bay now.
Finally at the point that I will be buying my torque converter soon. Still needing some clarification on this to make my purchase.
Thanks all.
