NEED HELP - Inner Axle Seal part # / source

Post by tigger4x »

Does anyone know the part number for a 1979 Jeep J20 front inner axle seal? My best measurement on the old seals is 2¼" OD with a 1¼" ID. I tried getting them from O'Reilly Auto Parts, but even if I order them today they won't be here until sometime around July 6th or later AND they want to charge a 'special order fee' that is more than the part itself. Each!! And even then I'm not sure if I trust them to get the right part which is why I'm here asking if anyone else knows the for sure part info. I need to order them ASAP! TIA 🍻

I think this is the one that you want? Do you have a Napa near you? Although its one dang expensive seal!

EDIT: Rock auto has it for a lot less: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.ph ... 9&jsn=2198

There are two possible for a '79; 2 1/4" OD, Jeep PN 8124630, and 2 5/8" OD, 8129096. The SKF above crosses to 8124630, so it should be right. RockAuto also shows a Timken and National part that crosses to 8124630.

JMO - seems like O'Reilly's does not want your business. That's what I would conclude. You have an independent parts store near you?

Amazon has the Timken seal, https://www.amazon.com/Timken-5131-Seal ... ref=sr_1_4 I have Prime, and they'd get it to me Monday for no additional shipping. (Disclaimer - I'm an Amazon stock holder :D ) They show the SKF seal too, but not as good a shipping deal. Might be better for you if you don't have Prime.

Neither will work. I need the inner seal right next to the diff.

It looks like this one ...

Not sure if this is the right one. That's my problem. Of the two options would go with Prime - the kiddo has an account, free returns if it's the wrong part. RA's item price is nice, but they're shipping is like O'Reilly's.

RockAuto shows the 620216 https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.ph ... 1048&jsn=9

Amazon has that too https://www.amazon.com/Dana-Spicer-6202 ... ref=sr_1_2

I suspect it's the same part. Different construction, different perspective. My parts book picture shows the parts I listed above inserted from within the housing. Part 9.368-3, below.
